School Absence

Parents can use a proof of medication (a prescription ‘token’ from the Pharmacy, medication boxes or bottles), a summary of discussion with a Pharmacist, or a surgery appointment confirmation to meet school requirements for ‘medical proof’ of absence.

In line with Department of Education guidance to schools, the surgery will not produce ‘absence certificates’ for parents or schools, as these are not required by the Education Authorities.

If, in exceptional circumstances, the school require a specific confirmation of a child’s long-term or persistent absence, they will obtain parental consent and then forward this with the school’s specific request to the surgery. We will be happy to respond to any such direct request from a school in line with the Department of Education guidance.
